After much planning, our ship has finally come in for our planned voyage around the world. We have purchased a 2000 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2 lying in Newport, RI. [to be named Time Warp]
Current plans, always subject to change, are to leave Seattle in early/mid December and winter over along the eastern seaboard, most likely South Carolina and warmer climes. Then head to the Med in the early spring and spend most of 2009 there. We expect to come back to Miami, FL this time next year before departing for the Caribbean, where we will spend 6 months. Then it is 6 months in the San Blas/Panama Canal/Galapagos area, a year in the South Pacific, and a year in Australia/New Zealand. The current plan is 1-4 years. It’ll be shorter if Ruth cant handle the sailing life; longer if she gets addicted to it! Either way, in the words of the illustrious governor of California, Ill be back!
I have set up a blog page at www.sailblogs.com/member/timewarp1. If you are interested in staying in touch with our journey, I encourage you to save it as a favorites or even as a home. That web site will have blog, pictures, and a map of where we are and where we have been.
We are both excited, scared, and sad to be leaving friends and family. But I have faith the good Lord will help us reach the goal He placed on my heart so many years ago. We hope some of you will come visit us in the far corners of this world! Please stay in touch.
Fair winds,
Peter Nelson, Time Warp

Just a quick update. I get home on the 22nd. Then back here on the 27th.
I am in Portsmouth RI fitting out the boat. Ive been here 3 weeks already. New rudder, bottom paint, MaxProp, prop shaft, sails, running rigging, vang, EPIRB, the list goes on and on and on)! Typical of boats, we are over budget and behind schedule! This place is a sailing mecca. New England Boatworks is absolutely huge, taking up probably 10 acres. They build maxis here and have a bunch of AC boats in the yard. There is a gaggle of Swan 42s here waiting for the Med circuit to start up. Next door is Hinckley Yachts and US SAILING offices. Across the street is where they build Farr 40s and J-22s. You cant imagine the money here! Everyone has their own rigging trailer for their boat and they tow it around with F350 crew cabs with the boats name/logo blazoned all over it! Quite something.
Our plan is to leave after Christmas, and possibly after the New Year depending on when crew arrive. Well go down Long Island Sound, checking out the Statue of LIberty and Manhattan. Then the hard part, the New Jersey coast. Past that we will duck into Delaware Bay and head up that bay the 50 miles to Baltimore. There is a ditch dug between Delaware Bay and the Chesapeake Bay. Well transit that canal and check out Annapolis before heading for Norfolk. From there, we arent sure if well take the ICW or not. I guess it is the more scenic route. But it will be a navigational nightmare. Our boat draws 6.5' and clearance is just a tad under the 6.5' maximum. So not sure what well do then.
The final goal is Charleston. Once there, Ill fly home and do the final move. The family will drive across the US and we will winter-over in Charleston. Plenty of work still to do on the boat while we are there. In April well try to head for Bermuda for a few weeks before pushing off for the Azores and Gibraltar in May.
The delivery down is going to be bitter cold. Well tie into Commanders Weather for some help there. Right now the pressure is unsettled. It is probably trying to figure out if it is winter or fall. I expect in the next few weeks for the temperatures to drop and stay there. Hopefully with that will bring some constant pressure.
Hi to our friends at the club, and best wishes for a WARM and merry Christmas!! Bummer about Winter Vashon scoring, but I hope everyone had fun anyhow.Peter Nelson, Time Warp, Jeanneau SO 45.2
