Letters : Just Suppose

Suppose you were asked to be our guest speaker at a Meeting. First you spend a bunch of time getting your act together the week before. Then you jump in your car after work and enjoy the rare privilege of weaving your way through freeway traffic, hurrying to get to the Meeting on time. This is a non-profit organization so you are not making any bucks on this little outing. You are a little tired from the day’s work and a little nervous about getting up in front of a group of strangers. But what the heck, you promised to be there.

Now suppose you start making your presentation and look up to see people leaving. So you try a little harder, but they still keep on leaving. It is really embarrassing. What would you do?

I do not know what the poor bugger did after I snuck out on one of our guest speakers last year during intermission. But I promise not to do it again, even if they are poor speakers, or have a business interest. Hope you will join me in making our guests feel welcome.

Erik Dahl, Miss Conduct
