Mike Visser, Kevin Oliverio, and Dalton Bergan won the Sears Cup in 1994, when they were still Juniors. They got together again this year to sail for the Mallory Cup, the Men’s National Championship. They entered the Area H Elimination’s, sailed off Orcas Island in August. There they won the right to represented our Area in the finals off Victoria, B.C.
The finals involved seven races, held September 8 to 12, and sailed in Thunderbirds. Mike, Kevin, and Dalton won handily. They finished with 14 points, their closest competitors had 23. We think that makes them the only team to have won both the Youth and the Men’s Championships.
