I went out in early May for what I hoped would be a great sailing trip. Unfortunately, the wind decided it was not going to cooperate. I keep trying to tame this wind, but it continues to be wild and free. This particular day it decide not to show up at all.
So I pulled out of the slip, not under sail but under power. Maybe that elusive wind could be found if I went looking. I chased after it to Boston Harbor. But no luck.
Once at Boston Harbor, I decided to catch a quick nap below. Then I heard my friend Bill say, You can sleep if you want to, but a fin keeps coming out of the water. I am not sure what it is. Needless to say, I did not remain below.
The show began. It was not one fin but two. They were not whales, this time, but dolphins. They went up and down and bobbed all around the boat for over an hour. One of them swam right up alongside the boat and turned sideways to look at me! I was mesmerized. It was like getting a chance to play with Flipper, one of my childhood dreams.
I think those dolphins were playing with the boat. They were cultivating a love affair with the Wave Walker, just like me. I know they turned a windless sailing trip into an unforgettable adventure.Debbie Behre, Wave Walker
