Letters : Where to Eat
It's 2100 and I'm Hungry!
While cruising, or on your way to a distant race, and your crew has refused to consider what is preferable for dinner, you might like to stop some where that actually invites sailors to break bread at their facilities: a place to tie up, a view of the water. etc. etc. So here's a short, and incomplete list, of places to consider. All have some sort of dock/moorage facilities and, reportedly, a passable eatery.
- Olympia: Cap't Ron's, West Bay Marina
.
- Lakebay: Small short-order house just west of Penrose Pt. State Park, has its own dock.
- McNeil Island: Complete dining facilities, open only to full time residents
- Tacoma:
- Tacoma Yacht Club, use your reciprocal, watch the signs for guest moorage, most of the old guest moorage has been converted to member moorage. They only accept plastic money!
- Pt Defiance Boat House & Boathouse Grill (253) 591-5325.
- Along Commencement Bay between Ferry Terminal and down town Tacoma there is:
- C. I Shenanigan (253) 752-8811,
- The Ram (253) 756-7886,
- Dock Street Landing (253) 272-5004,
- Lobster Shop South (253) 759-2165,
- or try Johnny's Dock (253) 627-3186, next to Pick's Cove Marina.
- Gig Harbor: The Tides; several within walking distance of the City Pier; and GHYC reciprocal moorage pier at the west end of the harbor.
- Colvos Passage: You're in the wrong water, there's no place to stop I'm aware of.
- Des Moines:
- Anthony's Homeport (206) 824-1947 is close by, as is
- The Breakers (206)878-7719 Guest moorage at the Des Moines Marina,
- West Seattle:
- Seacrest Marina has the Seacrest Boathouse Restaurant (206) 932-1050,
- or a short walk to Salty's on Alki (206) 937-1600
Beyond this point there are great places to eat within a short walk of almost any dock you can find.
