Had you been there, you would have been greeted at the door by your hostess for the evening, Margaret Sibold, and her assistant, Vicky Sheldon. They would have checked you in and made sure that you got your door prize ticket and ‘ordered’ you over to the name tag counter where you had your choice of decorating a power boat, sailboat, or a spinnaker with your own flying colors. Once inside the door, you’d have made your way through a friendly crowd, admired the graceful paper sailboats (made by Vicky) which decorated each table, had fun recognizing your 1975 Officers from the 6 foot caricatures of each (drawn by the talented Judy Smith), and ended up at your destination the bar! only to find it overly-crowded, althou’ a great place to chat with your fellow sailors. Guest speaker for the evening was Sally Laura from Seattle.
SSSS Awards 1974 and 1975 : Glenn Byrd, RC Chair, MC’d this portion of the program and introduced his RC members, each one of whom presented a segment of the awards. The presentation was clear cut and snappy, largely due to the new idea in trophies (each winner received one trophy ... on which was engraved all his/her victories) and the organization of the RC.
Ted Brien was the ‘show-swiper’ of the evening. [Ted and Helen are two of our three Life Members. They ran the races on the water in the ‘early years’ and he is speaking here as skipper of the RC boat.] Ted began his awards presentation with the Creepy Mouse Award. The Mouse went to Tom Fell, skipper of the Stone Horse, who races every race, undaunted, and for whom Helen and Ted have had to w...a...i...t. Ted presented the prize with great feeling and no apologies for the hot toddies absorbed on board the Briney between the finish and the Fell! And from that point on Ted got better. Worse??! Better!!! 175 attended.
