On Thursday, November 6, a crisp autumn day, Barbara Stuart began her next journey surrounded by family and friends. We encircled her bed and her spirit with our love and wished her fair travels. Her gentle, sensible, and hilarious spirit will be missed by many!
Barbs life was woven into many aspects of our community. She owned seven boats of various designs. A liveaboard at Westbay, she had easy access to all of them. The most recent to her collection was an ODay that she sailed with her friends the week before she departed us.
She was co founder of the Budd Inlet Star Fleet, being one of the first six owners. She raced her Star, Stella, this year with Eric Egge. She loved Stella when the wind picked up!
Barb raced PHRF as regular crew aboard Charlemagne for many years.
And she took photos for this rag.
Some one say poker? Yes, Barb was stealth player. The gals from sailing, and 6 degrees to beyond, soon learned her card counting skills. Her easy chuckle kept her undercover. Shed show up with a few coins, occasionally take a loan, and favorably redistribute the wealth before the night was done.
Barb made it clear she wanted no funeral or memorial. She wanted to be cremated and her ashes spread someplace remote and wild.
She wanted no mourning only celebration. And to that end we, her friends and family, plan to get together to celebrate a life well lived.
