Jeanne Socrates: “I like it when people call me crazy”
February 9th Zoom General Meeting
Are you at a point in your life where are you tell yourself that “I’m too old for that”? Maybe it is downhill skiing? Hiking the Wonderland Trail around Mount Rainier? Running a 10K? Or, cruising up to Juneau?
If so, your South Sound Sailing Society will provide you a bit of inspiration and encouragement at our February 9th Zoom general meeting.
Joining us from Australia will be Jean Socrates, who sailed into Victoria Harbor in September 2019 after spending 366 days sailing solo around the world with no outside assistance. Jeanne is a 77-year-old grandmother of three, originally from Ealing, West London. She didn’t start sailing until she was 50 but nevertheless has circumnavigated the globe under sail three times in S/V Nereida, a Najad 380. She currently holds the record as the oldest female to have circumnavigated the world single-handed, and she is the only woman to have circumnavigated solo nonstop from N. America.
Jeanne will share stories of her sailing adventures, including the highlights and times of agony.
Please invite your friends, children, parents, and grandparents to hear from a fascinating, courageous person.
The Zoom doors will open at 6:50 pm on Tuesday evening, February 9th. To register for the Zoom call, go to: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZModuyvrT0sHNMnrVZnfzS1Pt2pDvL-YnH9.
For those you who Zoom all day and don’t want another Zoom, this one will be worth it! Grab yourself a libation and put your feet on your desk.
We hope you will join us.
