Very Temporary Addenda to SSSS Sailing Instructions:

For the Spring Casual CV Series only.

For those interested, Transition will be out each Saturday April 3, 10, 24 and May 8. This will be with a limited RC crew. As with our previous casual races, there is no race fee, but there are no awards or season championship points either. Just enjoy your day sailing. We will normally conform with the SSSS NOR and Sailing Instructions for buoy races except as follows:

Classes: There will be two classes, as follows:

  • Class 1 Handicap up to 130 Code Flag 1
  • Class 2 Handicap 131 or higher Code Flag 2

Courses: Use the Mark Chart from SSSS Buoy Races Appendix A, included. We may use any combination of these marks, including drop marks, may be Windward/Leeward, leave marks to port, or multi-sided, leave marks on appropriate side to round rather than circle each mark. Courses will be a maximum of three laps.

Changing the Course after the Start: The course may be changed after the start by displaying Code Flag C and making repetitive sound signals.

The colored flags for the new course will be displayed by the Race Committee. (Amends RRS 33(a) and 33(b)).

Communication: Oral changes to our plans may be made prior to the start. Standby on Ch. 72 and listen for any hail from Transition or watch for Code Flag L (Come within Hail). Checking in is not desired, but we would appreciate a call (Ch 72 or 360-890-8450) if you quit early so we will know we can go home.

Start: We will signal one RRS 26 start for all boats, as follows:

  • Alert             1154    Five short horns          No Flag
  • Warning       1155    One horn                     Class Flags Up
  • Preparatory  1156    One horn                     P Flag Up
  • Prep Down   1159    One long horn             P Flag Down
  • Start             1200    One horn                     Class Flags Down

Finish: Regardless of the course set, finish between the Start buoy and Transition in the direction from the previous mark.

Time Limit: 60 minutes after the first finisher in each class, or four hours, whichever is shorter.

Protests: Please don’t.

Safety: Skippers and crews should adhere to county and state rules for antivirus protection in effect at the time of the race. This should be a minimum.
