Weather for Sailors
Our October 10th General Meeting will feature Bruce Hedrick, who will share critical information on the weather in the Pacific Northwest, especially as it pertains to sailing. He will explore where to get weather information, how to interpret the information you receive, and how to be your own weather person. Also, if you have any areas of interest or questions you’d like Bruce to cover, send him a note at .
Bruce has a great mix of academic and practical experience. Over the years Bruce has navigated everything from the Perry 68 Icon to the Ranger 29. In 2015, he won class in TransPac as navigator aboard the Santa Cruz 50 Allure. In the 2023 Swiftsure, he served as navigator and tactician on the Division-winning J-35 Tahlequah.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Oceanography from the University of Washington and learned meteorology “to keep from getting kicked around on the racecourse.” In addition, Bruce spent nearly two decades as Managing Editor for Northwest Yachting Magazine and was the chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Northwest Marine Trade Association from 2013 until 2015.
The meeting will be in-person at the Olympia Yacht Club located at 201 Simmons St. NW. (The clubhouse renovation project is complete)
Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. The meeting is open to both members and non-members, so invite your crew, dock mates, neighbors, and others who are interested in sailing.
We hope to see you there.
