This year we are going to try something different. For the December General Meeting, the SSSS Club will be holding a live, on-line fundraising auction of various entries of the Decorated Bottle Contest and other donated items. And as we have done for the past 10 years, all proceeds will go to the Thurston County Food Bank. The General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8th at 7:00pm. All Members should have received an email invitation to the meeting with instructions. Otherwise, send a request to our Program Chair Bob Butts at .
This is a fundraiser, so we are inviting everyone to participate in both the bottle decorating and the auction. This is going to be a new process, so things may change by the time the auction begins. But here is how we expect it to happen:
- Anyone wanting to participate in the Decorated Bottle Auction fundraiser for the Thurston County Food Bank should respond to the email sent out by the Program Chair. You will be sent a link on how to connect to the Zoom meeting. We may need to request additional contact information so we can communicate with successful bidders.
- Prior to the meeting you will be able to view some of the items submitted on the SSSS Website.
- After the welcome and a few announcements, the Auction should begin about 7:30pm. Our auctioneer this year is SSSS member Bill Hutchinson.
- Each item will be displayed on the Zoom screen as the Auctioneer is describing the item and accepting bids.
- At this time, we expect all bidders to use the “Chat” function on Zoom to submit their bids. All you need to do is type in an amount that is higher than the current bid. The Auctioneer will announce the current bid as it changes.
- Once the Auctioneer declares the bidding closed, no more bids will be accepted.
- To pay for your item, you can either send us a check made out to the Thurston County Food Bank or you can go to their website and pay using your credit card, and then send us a copy of their notice.
- We will arrange a time for you to pick up your item, or we may deliver it, or we can mail it if you pay the shipping costs.
Remember that all the funds are going to a good and worthy cause- the Thurston County Food Bank to help people in need. And, your donations can be tax deductible. As always, the SSSS General Meetings are open to everyone, so invite your friends to the auction, even if they are not sailors (do we even know anyone that isn’t or doesn’t want to be?)
