SSSS Decorated Bottle Contest- 2020

In the past few years, the SSSS Club has been highly successful in fundraising for the Thurston County Food Bank by asking our members (and others) to create decorated wine or liquor bottles that can be auctioned at our December General Meeting.

It’s time again to break out the arts & crafts gear and get to working, if you haven’t already, on your project entry for the Decorated Bottle Contest. For those of you who haven’t participated in the past, the competition is for the best wine / liquor bottle holder. Generally they are nautically themed, but that is not a requirement. Use whatever you want to build it – wood, paper mache, etc … it’s up to your imagination.

The entries will be auctioned at the charity auction in December to raise money for the Thurston County Food Bank. The last few years we’ve raised more than $10,000 each year.

Put on your thinking caps and heat up your glue guns … see you there!

2020 Bottle Decorating Contest

Auction Fundraiser

Tuesday, December 8, 2020

Starting at 7:00pm

The SSSS Club is sponsoring a bottle decorating contest and will be holding a live, on-line Auction to raise funds for the Thurston County Food Bank. This event will be open to anyone to enter the bottle decorating contest and bid in the auction. So, be creative as you want to decorate a wine bottle to be sold in a live auction. The money raised this year is especially critical for the Food Bank

Bottle Decorating: Your creation should have at least one bottle of wine or liquor. Once your decorating is complete, take a photo and email to us, along with a description of your creation, so we can post it on the web page, prior to the auction. We recommend that you use a nautical or holiday theme, but it can just be functional too. Please submit the photo and description  to:

Live Auction: A live, on-line auction will start immediately after voting concludes at about 7:30pm. Our auctioneer is Bill Hutchinson and he will be taking bids that are submitted on-line using the Zoom “Chat” function. Once Bill has announced that the bid is closed, no more bid submissions will be accepted. All bids should be in no less than $5 increments. All bidders must provide contact information, prior to the auction.

Payment: If you are the successful bidder, we will send you a notice (invoice). Checks should be made out to “Thurston County Food Bank” or make a credit card payment directly to the Food Bank. We will offer limited (and safe) delivery or pick up, so payment can also be made then. Your donation to the Food Bank is tax deductible, and moreover, will be helping local people that need help.

Collection of Donated Items: Decorated Bottles and other items can be brought to the Olympia Yacht Club (OYC) parking lot on Tuesday, December 8th from 10am to 4pm. Deliver to SSSS Commodore Richard Wells (also OYC member). Items should be boxed or packaged, especially if they are delicate. If we do not have your item in hand, we cannot put it in the auction.

Delivery of Items: We will arrange delivery in one of the following ways: 1) Pick up your item then next day at the OYC parking lot from 10am to 4pm, 2) If requested, we will deliver the item to your home, or 3) We will ship the item(s) to you, provided that you pay the additional shipping costs.

Other Auction Items: This year we will also be asking for other donations of items for the auction. These items must be some form of art, such as: paintings, framed photos, figurines, or handmade ornaments. These items will not be judged in the contest. Please send photo, description, and estimated value of item, by Wednesday, Dec 2nd to: .
