Mexico, Mainsails, and Race Awards
SSSS Zoom General Meeting – September 8
Do you have a clear understanding of where your traveler should be when the wind is howling and you are beating upwind? And, when should you yank on the Cunningham? More importantly, why is it called a Cunningham? Also, might you be interested in the adventures of a family with two children who cast off from Olympia several years ago and are now sailing in waters off Mexico?
Max Hegewald will share a few good stories about his family’s sailing adventure in sailing south from Olympia several years ago (assuming Wi-Fi is available where they are moored). Max, Stephanie, and their two children were SSSS members before they set sail from Swantown headed to Mexico and beyond.
Andrew Kerr will be providing our “Tech Tip” for the meeting on how to successfully trim your main sail whether you are a racer or cruiser. Andrew is a renown racer and does seminars across the country for North Sails. He will explain how to use the main sheet, traveler, boom vang, Cunningham, and backstay tensioner to increase speed and keep your gunnels out of the water.
In addition, Commodore Richard Wells will provide an update on the upcoming club activities and share other news. Our Race Chair, Eric Egge, also will be announcing winners of our 2019/20 races.
The “Zoom Doors” will open on September 8th at 18:00 and the meeting will begin at 19:00.
